Moses and Zipporah

The Story of Moses and Zipporah

Moses' mother died giving birth to him in December of 2006. His father worked a 12-hour night shift (6 p.m. to 6 a.m.) seven days a week for $50 a month. Home was a 2-room shack that lacked running water or a toilet. Moses joined four other siblings.

Elphas Ndeche, Moses's father, realized that he would be unable to care for his new baby boy, so he placed Moses in a nearby orphanage. About the same time the Ingrams had made a decision to provide foster care services, so they went to the same orphanage -- called The Nest -- and were led to choose Moses from the dozens of children there. He was just six weeks old.

Elphas also faced another challenge. Moses had a 3-year-old sister named Zipporah who was becoming a major challenge to her father. Zipporah frequently left the house at night to visit her father at his nearby guard shack! She also developed major behavioral problems following the death of her mother. Elphas asked the Ingrams to also consider providing foster care for Zipporah. Zipporah joined the Ingrams in early 2007.

After just a few weeks of providing foster care for Moses and Zipporah, the Ingrams knew God was leading them to adoption. They began the lengthy and costly process.
